Tunisia, country in northern Africa, is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea in north and east. It
encompasses the eastern end of the Atlas Mountains and the northern edge of Sahara desert. It
has two distinctive coasts of the Sea with total coastline of about 1150 kms (712 miles). It is a
popular tourist destination with over half a million tourists visiting the country every year. Among
others the tourism attractions here include the ancient ruins of Carthage, the Muslim and Jewish
quarters of Jerba, the coastal resorts outside of Monastir, the golden beaches, sunny weather,
spas, medical tourism and other resort areas. Tunis is the capital, the largest city and the major
international airport in the country.
