Nanda Devi National Park, located in the vicinity of Nanda Devi Peak the second highest in India in the state of Uttaranchal, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nanda Devi peak is one of the hardest to climb peaks and is a favorite destination of mountaineers. Unique high altitude forest settings with its spectacular views make the wildlife here different from other sanctuaries. In its ambit are the other beautiful sites of Valley of Flowers, Badrinath Temple and Hemkund Sahib. This National Park has been accorded the status of a Biosphere Reserve by Government of India. It is surrounded by mountain peaks except in the west there is an inaccessible gorge. Other important towns in the state are Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and others. Entry to the park is from Lata Village which is about 23 kms (14 miles) from Joshimath. Joshimath is well connected by roadways from the nearest railway station Rishikesh about 250 kms (150 miles) and nearest airport Dehradun is about 272 kms (170 miles).

Jim Corbett National Park, also known as Corbett National Park and Corbett Tiger Reserve, has
captured the imagination of many with its diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. Corbett
National Park lies in two districts of the state of Uttaranchal, Nainital and Pauri, covering an area
of about 521 sq kms (202 sq miles) and together with the neighboring Sonandi Wildlife Sanctuary
and Reserve Forest areas forms the Corbett Tiger Reserve over an area of 1288 sq kms (497 sq
miles). Because of Its geographical location between the Himalayas and the terrain, the streams,
the rivers and the ridges crisscrossing the terrain, present Corbett with a remarkable variety of
landscapes. Ramnagar, about 226 kms (140 miles) from Delhi, is the main entry town for the
park, which is well connected by road and rail transportation. Corbett Tiger Reserve has been
divided into five tourism zones, each with a separate gate for entry. Permits are required and
other visiting restrictions exist..
