Canadian Rockies:This Canadian part of the North American Rocky Mountains is a
UNESCO heritage site area consisting of five mountainous National Parks and some other
provincial parks. The four adjacent parks spread over an area of about 7700 sq miles are known
as Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho. The fifth park known as Waterton is not adjacent or
interconnected. There are numerous high peaks and ranges, some as high as about 13000 ft.
These Parks are popular tourist destinations for spectacular natural beauty, rivers, hot springs,
glaciers and biological diversity. The more popular of these parks may be as follows.

Banff AB:This resort town is a popular tourist destination because of its location inside the
Banff National Park. This vast park is spread over an area of about 2600 sq miles. Most of the
park is wilderness, mountainous terrain with hot springs, glaciers, ice fields, dense forest, alpine
landscape and adventure sports facilities. This is one of the four adjacent parks in the Canadian
Rockies. The park is also home to Sunshine Village ski resort one of the largest of the three in the
park, Lake Louise Mountain Resort one of the finest downhill ski areas with numerous hiking and
walking trails and the Mt Norquary ski resort. It is located about 80 miles from Calgary
International, the nearest airport.

Getting around: Rental or personal auto from Calgary International airport to the town or the
public shuttle buses and in town public bus system, on stroll on foot or some hotel run shuttles.

Tourist seasons: High tourist season is June to August and December to March, mid season
April to May and low season and September to November.
