Bandhavgarh And Kanha Wildlife, known for the highest density of tiger population in India, is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in the heart of Vindhya Mountain Range. It is about 250 kms (155 miles) from Khajuraho, about 200 kms (125 miles) from the nearest airport Jabalpur and 100 kms (62 miles) from the nearest railway station Katni. The center of this park is dominated by the majestic Bandhavgarh Fort built in 14th century, around which there are numerous caves containing shrines and ancient Sanskrit inscriptions.The park has four main entrances, Panpatha in the north, Tala in the east (most of the hotels are located here), Dhamokar in southwest and Khitauli in the west. Two roads, Umaria-Rewa highway and Parasi-Katni road via Khitauli, pass through the Park. Tala is a small village on the Umaria-Rewa state highway. There are more than 22 species of mammals and 250 species of birds in the Park. The park can be visited in a motor vehicle, Jeep safaris, and on elephant back.
Kanha National Park and Kanha Tiger Reserve, the largest Park in Central India with
significant population of Royal Bengal Tigers, leopards, the sloth bear, barasingha and wild dogs,
comprises of about 940 sq kms (about 362 sq miles) of National Park, about 1070 sq kms (about
412 sq miles) of buffer zone and the neighboring Phen Sanctuary spread over an area of about
112 sq kms (about 44 sq miles). The lush forests, grassy meadows and the ravines were the
inspiration to Rudyard Kipling for the well known novel Jungle Book. It is located about 169 kms
(105 miles) from the nearest airport Jabalpur and about 428 kms (265 miles) from Khajuraho.
Forest Department guides accompany visitors around the Park on mapped out circuits, which
enable viewers to see a good cross-section of Kanha’s wildlife. Wildlife in the Park has some 22
species of mammals. Kanha has over 200 species of birds.

Tourist seasons: Parks are open from about mid October to June and the high season is from
mid October to March.
